Jaquial Durham

Cultural-enthusiast and executive director, Jaquial Durham prolifically uses creative activism to bring light to social-political issues of race, prison culture, and gender. Jaquial is the CEO of Public Culture Entertainment Group, a company that intricately merges entertainment and education to elevate public awareness about the myriad of components that influence culture. Jaquial leads the company’s initiatives in directing TV/film projects and curating unique clothing capsules that showcase African American figures, organizations, and landmarks often absent from historical dialogues. A visionary and critic, Durham’s most recent documentary, Southern Prison Culture, has gained traction in amplifying awareness of prison conditions and calling for a reform in the function of “correctional” facilities. A valuable contribution to scholarly spaces, Jaquial has earned opportunities to lecture at American University, Benedict College, Claflin University, Clemson University, and Texas State University.

Jaquial’s dedication to helping the culture better understand the conditions of correctional facilities, African American history, and the development of higher education institutions in America has garnered him the Milan Gold Award, Austin Lift-Off Film Festival Award, and London International Monthly Film Festival Award. To refine his intellectual and creative genius, Durham is pursuing a PhD from Clemson University in Rhetorics, Communication and Information Design.

Jaquial endeavors to use artistic activism to address social issues close to his heart and build awareness about underpublicized events in current history.
